— Screening and In Conversation with Steven Ball
Ed Atkins introduced and expanded upon his work, Death Mask III, with artist, writer and curator Steven Ball. The conversation served as an insight into the work of Atkins. Ed Atkins works primarily with high-definition video and writing, exploring ideas of corporeality and materiality through digital and immaterial means. Using prosumer digital technology while exploiting the conventions of cinema and literature, Atkins attempts to materialise the body of the imagery, the equipment and the figure behind the camera. Atkins discussed the ideas and thoughts behind a new work, A Tumour (In English), for TATE Britain’s Art Now, which was currently in development.
A Tumour (In English) was presented in an installation at TATE Britain 8 October 2011 – 22 January 2012
Steven Ball is an artist, writer and curator. He is researcher at the British Artists’ Film and Video Study Collection, at CSM, London.
This event marked the launch of the space and programme ‘CIRCA Screen’ in September 2011
